The course combines fast natural singletrack with rugged root sections, off-camber corners, and technical compressions before transitioning onto centuries-old granite stairways that weave through historic mountain settlements. This unique fusion of untouched forest terrain and ancient urban architecture creates one of the most distinctive downhill experiences in Asia. Demanding both speed and control, Snow Lion rewards riders who can adapt to constantly changing terrain—from soft loamy soil and slick roots to unforgiving stone steps—all while descending through one of the Eastern Himalaya's most spectacular landscapes. Set at 4,300 metres at South Pullu, the gateway to Khardung La, the course unfolds in one of the highest downhill racing environments on Earth. The descent begins across barren high-altitude slopes before plunging through loose shale, rocky chutes, exposed traverses, and fast, technical switchbacks carved into the mountainside. Riders encounter relentless rock gardens, dry stream crossings, and constantly shifting grip as the thin Himalayan air places an additional demand on both body and mind. Surrounded by the vast landscapes of the Trans-Himalaya, Druk Layul is defined by exposure, speed, and endurance. Every corner is framed by towering peaks and stark desert mountains, creating a race that is as visually breathtaking as it is physically demanding. More than a downhill course, it is a test of resilience in one of the world's most extreme mountain environments. The track combines steep rocky chutes, loose gravel, exposed bedrock, technical switchbacks, and fast open sections that demand confidence and precision. Riders weave through dense patches of dry deciduous forest before emerging onto exposed ridgelines with sweeping views of the valleys below. Natural rock shelves, off-camber corners, and unpredictable terrain reward riders who can maintain momentum while choosing clean, calculated lines. Named after the historic mountain pass leading toward Sinhagad, Gaur Ghat celebrates the resilience and legacy of the Maratha heartland. The course offers a distinctive contrast to the Himalayan rounds, replacing alpine forests with rugged basalt terrain, dry mountain trails, and the dramatic backdrop of one of India's most celebrated hill forts.
